Fairways Rotterdam started out in late 1960 as a subsidiary of the Duutch SA&SSM Shipping Company, using the name Air Transport Rotterdam, then Transaero Rotterdam before finally settling for the Fairways Rotterdam title in the early spring of 1961. Operations began with a sole Douglas DC-3 between Rotterdam and Southend Airport freighting in fresch vegetables from the Continent with a second a example joining it in August of the same year.
By 1964 Fairways Rotterdam was also carrying charters behalf of Martin's Air Charter. By August of this year, ownership of the company had passed in the hand of M.A.C.
