The Ilyushin Il-78 is a Russian four-engined, high-wing monoplane tanker based on the Ilyushin Il-76. If thirty years ago the first aircrafts were able to perform cargo tasks (Il-76T), next variant (Il-78M) was truly air refueling dedicated without cargo door or cargo handling equipment in order to save structural weight and improve transferable fuel load.
Production of Ilyushin Il-78 reach 53 airframes to date (2014).
