On 4 November 1954, Convair YF2Y-1 Sea Dart, BuNo 135762, disintegrated in midair over San Diego Bay killing Charles E. Richbourg.
In this episode, the pilot (Jim Cock) is just prisonner of the sunk aircraft (named XF-190).
The experimental aircraft is played by XF2Y-1 prototype (BuNo 137634) with its original J-34 engines and twin ski (retracted here).
Sea Darts have a twin ski basic configuration but the first protytpe was upgraded at the end of 1954 with new J-46 engines and a large single ski. It's probably this one seen in the landing accident scene.
