Nova Robotics designs and builds the S.A.I.N.T. (Strategic Artificially Intelligent Nuclear Transport) combat series for the US military. A freak lightning strike grants robot designated Number 5 sentience and he escapes from Nova. Insisting he is alive and not malfunctioning he flees from Nova and the military.
