Blue Thunder's registration

According to this website (http://www.gregdonner.org/blue_thunder/bt_movie.html), Blue Thunder was "helicopter N77GH." I assume this is the registration. It says 2502 on the tailfin. Is that the serial number? - Kooshmeister

Nevermind, apparently, the Gazelle they used has had a lot of different registrations over time, if you scroll down. - Kooshmeister
Some good info in that site though. Nice find. Bthebest - IMPDb Administrator 06:15, 24 January 2011 (MST)

The fate of N230CA?

The same above website shows a "prop helicopter from Blue Thunder" which is a JetRanger reg. N230CA. Is that the somewhat restored remains of N230CA after it's crash in Katrina? Or perhaps a stunt helicopter (as the JetRanger crashes in the movie) with the fake reg. of the real N230CA? - Kooshmeister

Nevermind again. I just rewatched the film and the JetRanger used for the crash has different skids, meaning it wasn't the real N230CA and the prop on display in the website is that stunt 'copter after all. The website mentions the use of a prop helicopter for the crash, as well. - Kooshmeister

Conflicting information on the DVD

I just watched the featurette on the DVD and director John Badham claims Blue Thunder is a modified Aérospatiale Alouette, and even says Jim Gavin said it was an Alouette. The pre-mod photos they show are clearly of a Gazelle however. So what gives? Does Badham just know nothing about aircraft and is misremembering? I frankly think so. Nothing about Blue Thunder resembles the Alouette; the tail and runners and the rotor section are all very clearly a Gazelle. But not once do Badham or anyone in the documentary actually call it that; they keep calling it an Alouette. - Kooshmeister

The unpictured LAPD JetRanger is apparently the Santini air chopper from Airwolf: http://airwolf.tv-series.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=10112&whichpage=1 - Sandie 11:16, 27 April 2011 (MDT)
