In the very begining of the 20th century, french pionniers Ernest Archdeacon and Robert Esnault-Pelterie used cars to tests parts of their planes (for example : propellers). If IMCDB is right ( [[1]] ), I'm very doutfull that in the mid 20's such way of testing was still use !
