Kirill Lavrov (Ivan Sintsov, war correspondent)
Anatoly Papanov (général Fiodor Serpilin)
Alexei Glazyrin (Alexei Malinine Denisovich, political commissar)
Oleg Efremov (Captain / Major / colonel Ivanov)

At the outbreak of the war in June 1941, the war correspondent Ivan Sintsov must join his unit quickly. But under the onslaught of the Nazis, soviet troops are retreating and Ivan joined some lost infantry men when they witnessed aerial fighting between german fighters and soviet bombers and a single escort. The sole airman survivor is rescued by the small team.
(This movie is the first one of a two part set, the other one being "Vozmezdiye" in 1967).
