Latécoère 298 seen in Au grand balcon.

The Latécoère 298 was a French torpedo bomber but served also as a dive bomber over German motorized columns during the Blitz Krieg on May and June 1940. Despite having never found a Kriegsmarine (German Navy) objective, the type prooved to be sturdy and reliable and so was kept on active duty by Vichy regime's limited armies. A handle was sized by German who used them mainly for test and some training tasks. After November 1942, the airframes based in North Africa were used on coastal patrol alongside Wellingtons. Frontline service ended in 1946 but the very last flight occured in 1951 after a limited duty as trainer.

121 were built of which 81 were on strength in frontline units when the Third Reich launched its major offensive on 10 May 1940.
