Sikorsky Ilya Muromets seen on DVD05 of Wings of Russia.

The Sikorsky Ilya Muromets was one of the first aircraft designed by Igor Sikorsky in Russia. Based on the S-21, a twin then four engined aircraft of 1911, the S-22 made its first flight in 1913. It set several world records (number of passengers, distance) before World War One. Pressed into the bomber role, the type has had several variants (S-23 to S-27 or cyrillic alphabet series). It was effective until 1916 but soldiered on until the Revolution and later on both sides. In 1921, some commercial flights were done mainly for mail but with a total of sixty passengers.

The Russians built 83 Ilya Muromets bombers between 1913 and 1918.

This page lists all works that feature a variation of the Sikorsky Ilya Muromets.
