Special flying squad “Rossiya” (Russian: Специальный лётный отряд «Россия») is a state-owned enterprise that operates VIP flights on behalf of Russian government, including presidential aircraft fleet. It also operates specialized government communication aircraft, as well as aircraft that can serve as mobile command post in case of nuclear war. The Vnukovo-based “Government air squad” of Soviet Aeroflot was formed in 1956 (before that, the Soviet government officials used military aircraft to travel). In 1993 it was transformed into State transport company “Rossiya”, which also started to operate regular passenger flights. In 2009 the Special flying squad was separated from commercial Rossiya Airlines. It is now fully owned by Russian government.
