The styren models are from the late fifties. Model industry then lift up quickly.
But before the war, this industry was limited to some companies and their short range of aircraft model. They were made of balsa for flying model or from wood for static ones.

You can find the boxart seen allover the store :

but here for a 1943 product (note the sticker about the Hellcat which of course didn't exist in 1939 when the movie has been film).
