Screenplay and History

Povest o nastoyashchem cheloveke / Повесть о настоящем человеке was issued in 1948 and his the real history of Alexey Maresyev.
In this 2021 drama, the story relies on much more events depicting some real facts on the Eastern Front but not necessarily linked to Maresyev ... or the other pilot named during the credits. All of them have in common to took up the fight after amputation as did some other Allies of German pilots (for example : RAF Douglas Bader / Reach for the Sky; Luftwaffe Hans-Ulrich Rudel; ...) following the first pilot flying again after amputation, the Romanian Gheorghe Bănciulescu (raid pilot dead in Egypt in 1935).
Another point to underline : the Ilyushin Il-2 Sturmovik could sustain lots of damage but it certainly became very hard to man with such an amount of hit. Bringing back such a "sieve" would be already highly challenging without an ennemy still firing on you ... Once the radiator was hit and the coolant lost, the remaining flight time was very reduced !
